PROFILE

The Georgina Cares fund was created in 1995 through a co-operative effort of the Town of Georgina, The Georgina Advocate and Shaw Cable.   The Fund is operated by a volunteer board of directors.  Our funding sources include our Rogers Cable Telethon and direct donations from local individuals, businesses and organizations.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE FUNDING PROCESS
Georgina Cares disburses funds to needy children for the purposes of supporting extra-curricular activities or special needs when the parents (or guardians) cannot afford to do so.  Applications are limited to children 15 and under, and all applicants must live in the Town of Georgina, Ontario.

How do I apply?

In order to be considered, an application must be filled out.  These forms are readily available at many Town of Georgina buildings such as all library branches and arenas, or you can click hereAttached to the application form are our Guidelines.  The Guidelines must be adhered to.  In order for your application to be reviewed, all relevant paperwork must be supplied and the form must be filled in completely.

I've filled out the form, now what do I do?

All forms must be submitted to the Georgina Cares Fund by mailing them or dropping them off at the Town of Georgina Civic Centre:

What Happens Next?

The volunteer board meets several times throughout the year to evaluate applications and conduct the business of the Fund.  Each application is reviewed in detail, and there is discussion until an action consensus is reached.  The Board can decide to approve an application in whole or in part, deny it, or defer it if more information is required.  The Georgina Cares Fund has limited funds and we would like to help as many children as possible.  As a result, there are certain caps that we observe.  All decisions of the Board are communicated promptly in writing to the address supplied.

Confidentiality is one of the most important aspects of our organization.  All members of the Board have agreed in writing to strictly observe a code of conduct as to the confidentiality of the information they become aware of while serving as board members and into the future.  We understand and respect the desire and right of privacy of applicants and their family.

How does the Board evaluation process work?

At its monthly meeting, the Board assesses the merits of each application.  Each application is reviewed in detail, and there is discussion until an action consensus is reached.  The Board can decide to approve an application in whole or in part, deny it, or defer it if more information is required.

How will I know if I've been approved?

All decisions of the Board are communicated promptly in writing to address supplied.
